With recent advances in contact lens technology, contact lenses have become an excellent option for people of all ages and prescriptions of all ranges. There are now many types of contact lenses to choose from. But how do you know which pair of contact lenses is ideal for your circumstances?
Here are a few guidelines to help you make the best decision:
Hard or Soft?
Both types have pros and cons. With recent improvements to soft contact lenses, they are now a possibility for most prescriptions. Soft lenses provide exceptionally clear vision and are extremely comfortable. They are a very healthy option especially for people with sensitive eyes or allergies. For more complex prescriptions, a hard (rigid) lens may provide the clearest vision and therefore may be the best option for some people. Our Optometrist will help you determine which type is best suited for your unique eyes.
How Often Do I Replace My Lenses?
If you decide to wear soft contact lenses, you’ll have other choices to make. Lenses now come in daily, biweekly or monthly replacement options. Daily lenses are one-time use lenses: new, fresh lenses are opened each time you choose to wear contacts with no cleaning required! This is a great option for younger patients and people with allergies, dry eyes, or those who only want to wear lenses occasionally. Other lens options include biweekly or monthly lenses which are cleaned nightly and kept for up to 14 or 30 days, respectively. Some patients may even be candidates for lenses which can be slept in for up to 30 nights. Our Optometrist will help you determine the best options for your eyes.
